RECTORSEAL PRO FIT QUICK CONNECT REVIEW REGISTRATION Until last week I had not heard about Rectorseal Pro-Fit Quick Connect fittings. Shark Bite for HVAC was always a joke for something that some hack might come up with but here it was. Considering the price of Zoomlock, these no-crimp push to connect fittings can't possibly work, right? But I was intrigued so I ordered a single 5/8" union ($15) and did some tests.ġ. 80 psi R22 and SRL8 leak detector: no leaks detected vacuum: pulled down to 165 micron and started decay test, BluVac said passedģ.ĥ50psi nitrogen leak test: didn't explode (fitting is rated for 870 psi) dropped a few psi over 15 minutes but that was probably because the copper was still warm from brazing when I started the pressure testĢ. ![]() Then I removed the fitting, put it on again and repeated #2 and #3. Has anyone used one of these in the field? It's not all about static. Same thing about using certain brazing filler too close to a compressor, or on a discharge line. No, not DIY and I am not going to sell my torches but I am always curious about new products. When a big company like Rectorseal puts their name on something, I think it's worth checking out. Your concern about leaks is well founded but what's the harm with doing some tests on a new product and asking if anyone has tried it?I gotcha and I apologize. I went back and read my first post and realized I worded it way too aggressively. Again sorry about that, it's the products that frustrate me. Your testing is a totally legit thing to do. ![]() We've been dealing with a diy minisplit install at work that has been a real PITA and frustrates me even more with diy products. RECTORSEAL PRO FIT QUICK CONNECT REVIEW INSTALL My frustration with this stuff is that these companies come out with these cheesy products like "sharkbites" for refrigerant and line sets that are pre vacuumed etc etc and they are trying to make a buck by making hvac diy. Then some poor sap buys the house where all this diy work was done and inherits a nightmare. My problem with a lot of these products is that yes they work out of the box but I've seen even copper crack under the stress and abuse that a heat pump creates. To me there's too high of a probability that orings will fail after a period of time. A properly brazed joint can outlive a human. If there's a situation where you simply cannot use a torch then maybe it's ok, but imho a professional tradesmen should avoid using sharkbites on a refrigerant line.
