I know that I’m the only person in the house who uses dairy milk, I know that you do almost all of the grocery shopping in spite of the fact that it’s not your job to do so, and honestly, I’m annoyed at myself for forgetting to buy milk, and I secretly wish that someone else would just take care of my responsibilities for me, like when I was a kid. That’s What the am I supposed to eat?” Within a few months, I’d learned to say it more calmly: “I always eat cereal for breakfast, but we’re out of milk and I’m annoyed.” By the same time the following year, I was able to get to the core of the matter more quickly, and was able to express my concerns sincerely-all this, while Kristen continued to listen with patience: “You know, I grew up in a house where my mom took care of all the grocery shopping, and we just always had stuff on-hand. In the early stages of learning to communicate, back when I was forcing a new habit of expression, I would actually say precisely what was on my mind, while Kristen patiently listened: “We’re out of milk. “Use your words,” she would suggest, playfully, reminding me that a tantrum doesn’t yield results. But when we decided that we needed to communicate more effectively, Kristen no longer allowed that to happen. If, for example, I would come downstairs for breakfast to discover that we had cereal but no milk, my instincts were such that I would stomp around the kitchen, holding an empty bowl and rolling my eyes, hoping that Kristen would pick up on my frustration and somehow, perhaps magically, summon eight ounces of milk out of thin air. (What could go wrong with such a sure-fire strategy?) I’d cultivated those “skills” over three decades by the time I decided to start learning a better method of communicating, just a few years ago. My nature is to brood and sulk, assuming all the while that the person on the receiving end of this man-tantrum would take note of my distress, then take immediate and tireless action to make me happy. Both options have their advantages, and both can be surprisingly challenging. To improve communication between ourselves over the past few years, I have been employing a combination of both using my words and learning to let go.

And Convergence: A League of Legends Story continues that trend. In April, The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story showed just how great Riot Forge’s indie League of Legends spinoffs could be. Convergence: A League of Legends Story Riot Forge Another Fisherman’s Tale is available now for PSVR2 and Meta Quest 2. It’s a fairly short game that shouldn’t take you more than three to five hours, but it’s worth checking out for those who are looking for new and experimental VR games. It allows players to do the cliché first-person actions we’ve all come to expect from VR games, but occasionally forces them to do so from a mind-bending perspective. Another Fisherman’s Tale finds the sweet spot between both styles of VR games. All of this is tied into a pretty heartfelt story about a daughter recounting her father’s tall tales.Īfter a couple of months with VR, I’ve found that my favorite experiences are ones that allow me to be a bit more of a manipulator and observer, like Humanity, rather than intense shooters. This opens up quite a few interesting puzzle situations, whether that’s simply detaching your hand to have it go pull a lever in another room or controlling your hands and body independently of your head in order to put your body back together. The main gameplay conceit is that players can detach their limbs and control them, whether they’re attached to their bodies or not. While this is technically a sequel, you don’t need to have played its 2019 predecessor in order to enjoy it. If you’re looking for more good new games to play on your PlayStation VR2, Vertigo Games released Another Fisherman’s Tale. If you’re subscribed to PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium, it’s also included in that subscription service’s game catalog. Humanity is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5. It’s a thoughtful, visually striking experience that will stick with you after you play it, especially if you did so in VR, so any PlayStation owner owes it to themselves to check it out. Puzzle games are already immensely satisfying, and that feeling is only multiplied when what you’re manipulating are massive hordes of people. “What starts as a straightforward game about directing rows of marching people quickly turns into an insightful, challenging, and at times dark meditation on humanity’s ability to evolve and organize.” “Whether you enjoy complex puzzle games or just want a good excuse to use your PSVR2, Humanity is one of 2023’s few ‘can’t miss’ games,” Colantonio wrote in an article about how Humanity is the best PS5 game he’s played. Those feelings are all only heightened if you decide to try the game in VR, which we highly recommend if you’re desperate to play something new on your PSVR2 headset. It’s a Tetris Effect-like sensory experience that’s part Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and part Lemmings. Players control a little Shiba Inu dog as it directs massive hordes of humans to end portals across intricately crafted levels. In a year that’s proving to be relatively light in terms of compelling PlayStation console exclusives, Humanity stands out as both a fantastic puzzle game and a solid PSVR2 title. On to some other fantastic games! Humanity Enhance Games The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available now for Nintendo Switch, and this is the last time I’m going to mention it in this article. Its complex controls do take a bit of getting used to, but those who get the hang of it will be able to enjoy one of the most impressive games ever made. “It’s a digital laboratory that I imagine will still be producing unbelievable discoveries 10 years from now.”ĭetails big and small impress across Tears of the Kingdom, and at times it feels like this is the closest we’ll get to the ultimate video game experience. “So long as you’re willing to meticulously survey Hyrule like an archaeologist digging for fossils, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is an engrossing sequel full of mysteries to solve and experiments to conduct,” Giovanni Colantonio wrote in his four-and-a-half star review of the game. Not only do players have two new open worlds to explore with the Sky Islands and underground Depths, but systems like Fuse and Ultrahand ask players to embrace their creativity to solve puzzles and traverse around the open world. We already considered Breath of the Wild to be one of the best games ever made, but Tears of the Kingdom‘s evolution of that game’s open world and mechanics make Breath of the Wild feel like a beta. To get the obvious out of the way: yeah, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a really good game. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Nintendo The genius of the cake is that there’s room to riff at pretty much every step. So far I’ve tried a rosewater version using floral extract in the syrup, another with chai spices mixed into the custard, and a nuttier take with crumbled pistachios sprinkled on top. It’s a brilliantly simple recipe, practically begging to be customized. Then allow the cake to cool before cutting and serving. Remove the cake from the oven and drizzle syrup on top. The sugar syrup won’t go back into the oven, so you should aim to reduce the liquid until the texture is slightly thicker than simple syrup to avoid a soggy cake. lemon juice in a small saucepan over medium heat. Last, you’ll want to prepare the syrup by simmering 1 cup sugar, 1 cup water, and 1 tsp. Remove the phylo from the oven and pour the custard evenly over the phyllo before returning to the oven until the top is golden and crispy, 30–40 minutes. vanilla extract in a medium bowl until combined. During this bake, whisk together 1 cup milk, 2 eggs, 1 cup sugar, and 1 Tbsp. So I did what I do with all of the best-looking recipes: Tossed it a heart and swiped on with my evening.Īfter the first bake, drizzle 1 cup melted unsalted butter evenly over the phyllo. Ooooh, wow, I thought looking at the crispy-crackly end result, that looks gooooood. First, I saw the original video by Ramena from where she cleverly folds sheets of phyllo dough together like an accordion, then douses them with butter, sugar syrup, and a simple custard. That’s how, during a quick scroll through TikTok in bed at a totally normal hour, I found this phyllo crinkle cake recipe. And if it’s really good, it’ll probably show up more than once as others on the app re-create, rehash, and riff on the recipe. Sure, there’s a seemingly infinite amount of food and cooking videos to scroll through (a vortex), but I have a job to do, and apparently watching recipe videos in the test kitchen doesn’t count as “research.” Still, the algorithm is efficient, so rest assured that if there’s a hot new trend on #FoodTok, it’s going to show up on my For You Page right away. This might come as a surprise, but even though I share a lot of my own recipes on Tiktok, I don’t spend a ton of time on the app. Welcome to It’s That Simple, a column where we talk you through the process of making the dishes and drinks we can make with our eyes closed. This will mean that your tie won't separate from your shirt during wear, this will be particularly handy if you're not wearing a jacket. You can do this by making sure it's anchored to the seam of your shirt, as well as your tie. Although it's known that men opt to wear tie bars for the fashion statement alone, it's still worthwhile getting the most out of your tie bar by making sure it serves a function. Not only do tie bars add a sense of sophistication to your suit, they also work to keep your tie and shirt from coming apart. This will give you roughly the same positioning.Īnother thing that many gentlemen fail to consider is the functionality of tie bars. On the occasion that counting buttons doesn't suit you, perhaps you might be running late for work, just place your tie bar roughly 1/4 of the way down your tie once it's been tied up. This formula will ensure that your tie bar isn't too close to the collar of your shirt and also doesn't risk being covered by your jacket. Yes, it's absurdly precise but it's fool proof in ensuring your suit is detailed to perfection. Their conclusion? A tie bar should be placed between the third and fourth buttons of your dress shirt. Over the course of decades, industry experts have gradually come to a precise formula of positioning a tie bar correctly. There's "do's and don'ts" for this part too. Now you've got a tie bar of an ideal length, you'll need to know where to place it on your tie. An ill-fitting tie bar can be spotted from a mile away and it can be disastrous for the overall impact of your suit. Just as long as your tie bar doesn't extend the full width of your tie, nor does it reach below half its width, you'll be 100% in the clear. And for skinny ties, you'll want to go for a tie bar that's between 2.5 cm / 0.9 inches and 4 cm / 1.5 inches long. It is universally recommended by fashion elites that a tie bar should cover 3/4 the width of your tie. The first thing you have to consider is the correct length of your tie bar. Even though they're a small detail in the scheme of things, tie bars play a huge factor in determining the overall sophistication of your suit. If that sounds like an enviable feat, you're going to need to learn the nuances of wearing your tie bar correctly. If you happen to wear a tie bar to a function that's littered with gentleman who have forgotten to consider their accessories, you will instantly stand out as being better groomed and more considered. But if we know one thing's for sure, it's that small details make the bigger picture look better - much better! Sometimes they're an afterthought once the rest of the suit has been decided. When it comes dressing for formal and social engagements, not all men remember to wear tie bars. When the angled cord is wound up onto a beam it provides a sturdy and flat surface on which to place your first revolution of warp sticks.Tie bars are synonymous with formal sophistication and they're enviably practical for keeping your tie attached to your shirt.Angled cords are less likely to create grooves in your beam than straight cords.Tie-on bar stress is reduced by removing outside loops on narrow warps. Each loop is an individual piece of cord that maintains even tension. The big loops make it easy to slide the tie-on bar in and out.I am enthusiastic about this method of attaching the tie-on bar to the front and back beams for the following reasons: I turn the crank to wrap up the new cords onto the back beam.īe careful to cut all the cords to exactly the same length! I pull the tie-on bar away from the back beam until the warp stick snugs up to the beam. I then pick up the tie-on bar and slide it through all five loops from the back beam. I place this loop onto the warp stick on the floor and tighten it. After you watch me thread the other end of this cord through the beam I use a latch hook to create a loop in the end of the cord. The first end of this fifth cord loop has also already been secured to the warp stick on the floor. The first four cord loops are already in place before the movie begins.Įach piece of Texsolv cord is 265 cm (104") long for a Standard loom and 250 cm (98") long for an Ideal loom. They nonchalantly passed on even apologizing for the mix up and proceeded to tell me there was nothing they could do. I called immediately to let them know about my dissatisfaction with the service not only with them switching up my order but also not even calling me about my order being ready. The worst was yet to come when I unpacked the food and it turns out one of the 3 dishes I ordered was completely wrong. A tad bit upset I headed to the restaurant only to find that my order had been sitting there for ~30 minutes based on how cold the food was when I got home. Here is where the issues started, about an hour later I was still waiting to hear back about my food being ready. The guy behind the counter took my order, I paid, took my receipt and headed home with him saying that they would call me when the food is ready. It started off by me heading to the restaurant to try and get a table, they said they were busy which is understandable on a Saturday night. I have never really had a problem with service until I decided to try a takeout order. So a little background, I have been to Chang Noi's about 40 times, and the food is above average for Thai food in the Niagara region, about average when compared to the GTA.
